A comedy in three acts, Noel Coward’s classic comedy Private Lives will show at Farnworth Little Theatre 18 - 25 January, 2025.

Farnworth Little Theatre are shaking off the January blues with rip roaring comedy Private Lives. Packed with art-deco glamour, ferocious wit and sardonic humour - this night out is guaranteed to fill your first days of January with joy.

Ex-lovers Amanda Prynne and Elyot Chase find themselves, to their horror, honeymooning with their new spouses at the same hotel in France. Old resentments quickly fan the fires of an old flame where they decide to elope to Amanda’s flat in Paris, only to resume the vicious quarelling that drove them apart in the first place.

Directing and starring in the play is Phil Harrison, a PHD candidate in the works of Noel Coward, who studies at the University of Birmingham.

Phil Harrison commented: “Whilst the play was written in 1929, the themes of love, passion, domestic violence, marriage, and adultery are just as relevant now as when they were first penned.”

“The protagonists lampoon the hypocrisies and pretensions of modern manners and social conventions however, their inner passions and jealousies (their “private lives”) consume them, leaving them trapped in an inescapable cycle of love and hate. Coward treats these weighty themes with his signature light comedic touch, and packs the play with classic Cowardian witticisms which have made it a popular modern classic.”
